my gif

The concept for my gif is me getting angry really easily. To portray this, I made a thumbs up turning into a middle finger. The thumbs up shows happiness, and the middle finger shows anger. I blurred it out so that it was not offensive, just like how when I'm angry I try to restrain myself.

My gif hasn't actually evolved much since I started. I was actually choosing between this and my brain with a fuse in it.  I decided on this because I thought it was more symbolic I think the simple color pallet portrays the simplicity of my concept. I also like that I only used red in one slide, when the middle finger was up. I think that the words was the only real change that happened.

"How I Want To Die" A Photoshop Portrait of Where I Want to Be in 80 Years

1. The concept behind my project is me, jumping out of the space station down a rainbow path into a dog's mouth. The title is: "How I Want To Die"
I am very happy with the way this turned out- it's developed a lot since the original concept

ME JUMPING:

DOG:
My Process for the DOG:
   1. Go to transform, and click "flip horizontal"
   2. Change the size of the dog using command t
   3. Select the dog
   4. Create a layer mask
   5. Make everything darker using curves
   6. Make a layer mask for the curves layer
   7. Color everything black (on the mask) except for the dog
   8. Marvel at your incredible skills

Letter reflection

My process was to first write out ideas for how to compose the letter E. Afterwards, I had to design thumbnail sketches to work out which ideas to use. Once I got feedback, I decided on which idea to use, and made two drafts. The idea I decided on, an egg, as you can see below, was one of the first ideas I had, and I liked the possibilities of what I could do with it. The blue background is meant to make the egg stand out more.

Brainstorming ideas

To represent my idea, one thing I did was show a crack in the egg with white and yolk in it, and yolk spilling out of it. I also gave it the general shape of an egg, with the shadows at the bottom supporting the 3-D aspect of it.
Crack

Full Egg
The most challenging part of this project was not making it look like an egg, but making it look appealing to the eye, because just an egg is not very interesting to look at.

I am pleased with this design, because while it is not too complicated, I really do think it is appealing, and it's very easy to tell what both the letter and the general design are.

If I could change something, I would make the shadow look more realistic, because I accidentally made it a bit too dark. I also would have made the egg's outline smoother.

Homework 1

My name is Nick Pels, and I live in Manhattan in Harlem. I go to Millennium High School, and am in junior year. I enjoy video games, eating and playing with dogs (but I don't have one).

Pics From My Summer:
In Early August, I went with my mom to the Brooklyn Bridge Park to see an installation with the COOLEST BENCHES EVER. I chose this photo because it gives a good idea of what we saw (and sat on), and has a nice foreground and background.
A week before I went away, we had some family friends come over for a barbecue… in our yard… in Manhattan. This is a picture of some of my favorite people (with the cutest babies) playing in the deck behind our new house, which is unique because there are very few houses in Manhattan with this kind of outdoor space. Oh, and we're the only people in our building with access to it.

This is from my trip to Phoenix, Arizona at a place called hole in the rock, which is a (mostly) natural rock formation in Papago park. It is a rock that you can walk up to with a natural hole that goes straight through it,and it overlooks a lot of the city. This is the view my uncle and I got when we went there to see the sun set.
